Judges' Education

Judges’ Study Group, & Ringside Mentoring (JEC)

The National Specialty is a wonderful venue to educate judges and prospective judges of our Breed. This year, again, the Education Committee will be offering an extensive learning opportunity for JUDGES working toward becoming eligible to judge Siberian Huskies. Attendees will be expected to devote all day Friday and at least part of Saturday (during Best of Breed judging) for Judges’ Education. Upon request, there may be additional opportunities for mentoring during Sweepstakes and Class judging. For Fanciers wishing to register for this class, prior completion of the pre-requisite class “Judges’ Education for Siberian Fanciers” is required, and they should not have a dog entered in Breed.

For more information on Judges’ Education and to receive a reservation flyer, contact: Donna Beckman, SHCA Judges’ Education Chairman, 1030 Arlington Boulevard, El Cerrito, CA 94530, shcajec@yahoo.com, (510) 524‑9950.

The deadline for receipt of JEC Seminar reservations is August 15, 2022.

Judges' Education for Siberian Fanciers (JE for Fanciers)

To help Siberian Fanciers actively working to become judges, we offer this course. Please realize that this is NOT a course for Fanciers to learn about Siberians or about what judges look for when judging. Rather, this is a Judges’ Education course for very experienced and knowledgeable Fanciers who are serious about becoming judges to learn about judging, including those who may be asked to judge local matches and sweepstakes. And, attendance in this course is a pre-requisite for fanciers who wish to attend the full Judges’ Study Group at a future National Specialty. In this course, very experienced Fanciers (successful breeders and exhibitors) who are serious about judging will become exposed to the AKC Judging Application process, and will “practice” some of the established education components.

AKC has established minimum requirements for those applying to judge their first breed. These requirements include longevity in the Breed in the areas of exhibiting, breeding, stewarding, and judging, as well as proving canine and Breed Standard knowledge. You can find the complete requirements on the Conformation Judging Resource Center of the AKC website. The requirement for attendance in this course is meeting a minimum of one-half of AKC’s requirements to become a judge.

The course includes some self-study, as well as classroom seminar, workshop, and discussion at the National Specialty, along with ringside mentoring. The classroom portion of this course will be held in the afternoon or evening during the Specialty week; exact day/time to be determined. Ringside mentoring will be scheduled during class judging, early in the week.

Due to the need for materials, mentors, and dogs/handlers, there must be a minimum number of participants, but class size is limited, and advance application is required. For more information and an application, contact: Donna Beckman, SHCA Judges’ Education Chairman, 1030 Arlington Boulevard, El Cerrito, CA 94530, shcajec@yahoo.com, (510) 524‑9950.

The deadline for receipt of JE for Fanciers course applications is August 1, 2022.
